TAL is Australia’s leading life and income insurance specialist. Despite their extensive history of over 140 years of experience in the industry and their commitment to protecting Australians and their families, current insurance customers feel that a the “mutuality” they expect from an insurer is long gone. They feel instead that they are set at odds against an industry heavily biased toward the insurer.  Our recommendation to TAL was to imbue its products and services with the concept of a new mutuality- a correction of services and products that actively demonstrate a better balance of mutual benefit. We started with a design sprint to find the first product or service to introduce TAL’s new engagement platform.

Our idea

Our idea to transform TAL’s service started with identifying a problem and asking ourselves how we might address it: of the half a million or so Australians hospitalised as a result of traumatic injury, one-in-three* will experience depression after three months. Coping with a serious injury and its treatments can be challenging enough, but if you experience mental health problems as well, it can be very difficult to work out how to manage- both emotionally and practically. Cora is the result of our first sprint with TAL and an active expression of its ‘New Mutuality’ strategy.
